Eador under Ubuntu

 This game is pretty good, if you liked MoM, HoMM and 4x games like that. Runs perfectly under wine 1.5.22 using Playonlinux. I can only describe Eador - Genesis as a mix of Dominions and HoMM 3.

I reinstalled ubuntu, and now things going fine. Gfx bug went away.

Minecraft bug!

I reinstalled ubuntu, and now I have this problem with minecraft.

There are 3 ways to play Total Annihilation in Linux: wine, spring, and TA3D. If you run it in wine,  multiplayer doesn't work. Spring has a TA mod, but needs much more resources then the original.

TA 3D looks the best, but I can't make it run in Ubuntu, after adding the repositories, gives me an error, about unable to connect. Anyone managed to run it in Ubuntu 12.04?

Dosbox

Dosbox with Blood, Shadow Warrior, Dominions I, MoM works pretty fine in Ubuntu on the x60s.

I really like Dominions series, but never liked the gui of Dominions 3, so I made this mod some time ago. There are a few variations in the rar file. Just unrar to the game folder. Have fun playing!

Conquest of Elysium 3 -   turn-based strategy game from the makers of Dominions series, Illwinter. Following the path of Dominions, where evil only meant "ugly units", but act as well. Like sacrificing population to summon demons..  A bit like a simplified, HoMM type Dominions. The only thing I don't like is the black background of the battle screen, and the lack of assigning orders to units before battle. See the demo. Music is really cool, Blizzard type of quality, sounds are similar to Dominions.

Sometimes it is pretty enjoyable to just go and soot, old school gameboy or commodor style.. Steel Storm has the same feeling, and it's free for the first episode. The old Quake3 engine works well, the only thing I miss from the game is some kind of story between the missions.. for example in comic book style, then it would be a perfect small, netbook compatible pack of quick fun. There is multiplayer as well and works in linux/win/mac environment

Lords of Magic, one of the best MoM like 4x game

     There are games you pay a few times, than get bored, delete it and you never feel like playing it again.. Lords of Magic is not like that. Maybe it has to be the art design, the game mechanics, or the feel of a game that makes you feel like playing it again. Only few games can old well. 

     Was made by Impression Games and published in 1997 by Sierra. When it came out, the hype (it is the mix of MoM and LoR2) and bugs killed it, even it had lots of promise. Luckily a year after the developer made a "Special Edition" with more scenarios and killed the bugs, but still since it was then "old news" the repaired game did not get the reputation it deserved.

    Why this game is still enjoyable? It has a distinct, partly hand drawn art style, not too fairy like as Heroes which still looks nice. Runs in new windows versions nicely. The game mechanics are complex and well thought. The main map is turn based, battles are real time whit pause (like Baldour's Gate or other Infinity engine games). There are eight factions, representing elements fighting in a fantasy world were the balance was broken by the Death faction. Firs you generate your hero and faction leader rpg like, choosing class and side. Every hero can command three unites, and unites consist of 1-3 man or monster. Your first task is to get a stronghold, a city to become a leader, this means you need to free a great temple of a faction. If you manage it, the games becomes Heroes like. There are no missions, the Death factions units will attack you more and more, and to stop this you will have to kill their leader at the end.

Funny, needs reflexes and needs you to think. The war of wind up toys, your goal is to send your toys to the other side of the screen to archive points, and not let the other side's toys to reach your side. It was published in 1996 and still looks nice and works whit new versions of windows (x86).

Dominions 1

Turn based fantasy strategy, whit deep and complex mechanics. The beauty of this game is in the variety of choices in how you want to rule and conquer as a god-king.  There are hundreds of spells you can research, from summoning fairys to sacrificing virgins to gain favors from demons. The game has a second and forth edition you can still buy. Works fine whit  new versions of windows.
